One table, one rule, forty years.
Mr. Dan1els Inc. began as a single cutting table in Paramus, New Jersey. It has grown into five disciplines and has not changed its mind about anything important.
Our Story
We started with a rule, not a plan.
In 1984 the house opened with one table, one pair of shears, and a rule that nothing leaves unless it was made for the person who ordered it. There was no collection and no season. There still isn’t.
The disciplines arrived one at a time, and each for the same reason: a client asked for something the market was making badly. Outerwear, because coats had gotten too light. Footwear, because a bespoke suit over a factory shoe is an unfinished sentence. The cigar line and 1984 Bourbon, because the hours after a fitting deserved as much attention as the fitting.

The Craft
What we will not do.

No stock sizes
There is no rack to pull from. If it exists in this house, somebody ordered it.

No rushing the wood
Neither the last nor the barrel. Both take the time they take, and we quote accordingly.

No final fitting we are not happy with
Extra fittings are free because the alternative is a garment we would rather not have made.

The Salon
Where the work actually happens.
The salon is a room with low light, heavy chairs, a cutting table at one end and a cabinet at the other. Fittings run long. Nobody is booked behind you.
We keep the cloth library, the shoe lasts, the humidor, and the bourbon in the same room on purpose — because a client who is choosing a dinner jacket is usually thinking about the evening it is for.
